Sounds of summer

I woke up at 5 this morning to some of the usual sounds--Fuzzy purring in my ear, Louie purring between my knees--and some distinctively summer sounds--the ceiling fan whirring and clicking, the birds (mostly robins, cardinals, and house finches, it seemed) singing, and behind that, low ferocious rumbles of thunder, followed by big booms of thunder and rain pelting on the roof. (Then the sounds of Sylvie hollering at Gingy in the kitchen...*sigh*...that's an all-season sound.) Hope you're enjoying sounds of summer, too.

  2. Mom just had a good listen ... and this is what she heard:

The computer fan cooling the laptop down.
    A seagull calling out.
    Alfie purring nearby.
    A car door slam.
    And mostly silence ...

Sometimes when Mom is inside the house but a window is open, and the wind is in the right direction, she can hear the sound of the sea (we live just 4 minutes walk from the seafront).

  3. It sounded so idyllic until the next to last line!

Right now I can only hear the fan, and some very loud cardinals letting me know that I need to fill the feeder...

  5. We had WILD thunderstorms early this morning in CT. And rain so heavy it was hard to drive. It's eased up a bit now, but there are still lots of puddles and dripping of trees. Henry has vanished, he does not like thunder.

  6. Heehee! I have the same sounds here Paula! I bet you know all your cats 'squeaks', 'growls' and 'purrs'! They have their own lauguage, don't they? It's a good job we're fluent in 'kittyspeak'!

  7. I wish to goodness we could get some rain. I'm watering my flowers AGAIN as I'm typing. They keep promising rain, and the sky always threatens, but nothing ever happens. Send it my way, please.

  8. Izzy behind my knees, girls downstairs...as the thunder hit...I could hear Stella jump off the couch and start to growl, like that's gonna make the thunder go away, and Zele, well she decided to walk the downstairs..waiting her 5:45 am treat from Andrew. Our babies are all the same...

  10. Same sounds here! I really do love them though...even the storm sounds. I love hearing a storm while in bed...oddly comforting to me. It seemed my eastern bluebirds knew what was coming as they were extra chatty this morning. Glad you are enjoying my Tute ;-)
