Big News for '09!

My father will be retiring to Virginia this year! I brought him back with me after Christmas, we went to a retirement community that we'd both researched...and he went ahead and signed up for an apartment! It's in a brand new building that isn't even finished yet, so he had his choice of floorplans and finishes. I know that at least the new place will be clean and shiny, and the apartment is on a corner so that it has more windows than usual, which is nice. Also a great selling point for this place is that it's in a community, with dining room, convenience store, bank, spa, doctor's office, swimming pool, etc. all on the campus and a large enough group of active people that there are all sorts of clubs and outings, should one want to join.

I tried unsuccessfully to straighten up before my father got here. I mean, i spent two whole days lowering the level of stuff on my kitchen table but there still was too much for him to sit at the table, and the accumulation of tote bags full of projects and books made walking something of a hazard for him. At least there was a place for him to sit on the couch...and Fuzzy, who is a bit shy with men because of his bad former owner, warmed up quickly to my father...and warmed up his lap, too! You'd never know from these pictures that my father's never owned a cat *g*.

  1. Oh, that is so nice - and a very sensible thing to do! Some parents get all "stubborn" and don't want to change their living situation. Which is understandable! It is a very big and brave step for your father and he did in at the best moment!

  2. Ups, we can only comment here on the Gingy post, can we? Anyway: Hilarious! What a pretty hat - that moment must have been priceless. You were really fast to catch it!

  3. Oh, what lovely pictures of your dad with puss! It's great he's coming to live near you- and the new apartment sounds fantastic! What great news to start a New Year QC! I love the pic of Ginge with her hat on! It's really funny, but for some reason, there is no box to leave a comment? Great pics, as always - you are a totally brilliant photographer, I struggle to get good pix of the cats, as by the time I've fiddled and got it ready - the cat has stopped doing the cute thing! Ah well, such is life!!

  4. Hi there Siena & Chilli's mom and Liz! thanks for your lovely comments. I am so very thrilled that my father made the decision for himself, at a time and place that are convenient for him, instead of having the decision thrust on us some time later when it might be a lot more difficult.
As usual, the lack of comment box on Gingy's hat pic is my fault...i was so good with all the other new posts i made yesterday, and that was the last one, and i forgot! The good pics really have to do with very photogenic cats who don't mind the camera, and a fast little point-and-shoot digital camera that doesn't require much fiddling.

  5. Hi Quiltcat,
it's so nice to see your Dad... he and Fuzzy look like the best of friends! What a snuggly kitty! I think cats can sense family right away and feel very relaxed. That's wonderful that he will be moving into such a wonderful retirement community and so close to you.

  6. We think your Dad knows that no one ever owns a cat. Happy pictures. This must be a relief to have your Dad near. Happy New Year to you all.

  7. That is a lovely pic of your dad with the puss. Is he allowed to have a cat in his new residence - 'cos if so, maybe he should?(He looks a natural!)

  8. Hi Milo and Alfie's mom! Thanks for stopping by. Yes, my father's allowed to have a cat in his new residence...and my sister and i have been not so subtly suggesting that he should have one of his own, but so far he's resisting. At least once he moves down here, he'll be able to visit his "grandcats" regularly!

  9. It is recommended that the filters are cleaned once a month. Backwashing is an easy way to do this. Simply remove the leaf basket, turn on the pump, and let it run until the pipe releases clear water. read more here
